Where I'm getting hung up now, potentially, is I hear that there may or may not be a second module needed to fully implement the touch feature. My usual coding company will cut me a good deal on coding the part to the system. It's a new unit (supposedly) and with shipping is under $200. The seller assures me it has the touch feature. So what I really need to know, is if it's possible to upgrade w/o changing wiring, etc. I really don't want ID8/9's touch panel, which is why if I can get this car to where it should have been out of the box I'll keep it longer than normal. If not, I'll pay full freight and yank out the warranty replacement controller and resell it. In a perfect world (not BMWs) I'd be able to work a deal where I pay the difference between the controllers and an add-on module if required. The dealership is going to end up replacing my current controller one way or the other. That being said, I expect it's going to cost me money. For the other options, it's just one more specialized vocabulary I need to learn to replace a feature I've used successfully for almost ten years. When I use it to make a call I have about an 80% chance of first-time success. And honestly, voice control, at least in my car is finicky. Third I sometimes have a problem extending my right arm enough to reach the touch panel w/o greatly compromising my seating position. Second, I've been using the touch feature since 2014, and it's very much 2nd nature to me, no thinking is required. Well, first off, I despise CarPlay and Android Auto. but the voice control should be better for that I could see someone using it to search for songs on the native BMW apps or adding in addresses. if you are a carplay / android auto user, this is out the window by default. I've been of a long curiosity as to what people use this for.
